College Stats 'n Stuff for the SEC (Week Three)

Best Wins:

  • Alabama put the hammer on any hopes for a rebound by Arkansas, by a 52-0 margin.
  • Florida and Tennessee jockeyed for position under their second-year coaches and the Gators prevailed, 37-20.

Stats Smorgasbord:

  • The Crimson Tide is No. 6 nationally in total defense despite the tough early schedule that included Michigan and Arkansas.  (At least Arkansas was considered tough going in.)
  • LSU, however, is just above the Tide at No. 3 in the nation.  The Tigers' toughest foe was Pac-12 opponent Washington.
  • 'Bama is also No. 3 in the nation in scoring defense, after two consecutive shutouts, and allowing only 14 points to Denard Robinson and Michigan.
  • Tide again: QB A.J. McCarron is No. 3 in the nation in passing efficiency, with 7 TDs and 0 INTs.  No Heisman buzz of note for McCarron, though.
  • OK, not Tide: Georgia's freshman running back Todd Gurley is averaging 9.9 yards per carry.

Football Factoids:

  • ESPN Heisman Watch: 8-T. Jarvis Jones, Georgia; 11-T. Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina; 13-T.  Aaron Murray, Georgia.
  • SEC in the AP poll: 1. Alabama; 2. LSU; 5. Georgia; 7. South Carolina; 14. Florida; 23. Mississippi State.
  • Arkansas will try to get healthy vs. Rutgers.
  • Auburn was the second SEC school to go into overtime against Louisiana-Monroe, but the Tigers escaped with a win, unlike Arkansas.
  • But Kentucky wasn't so lucky in its matchup with a Sun Belt team, losing 32-31 to Western Kentucky.
